Drawing on his recent book Waterloo Sunrise, Sibford resident John Davis will look at the evolution of London in the two pivotal decades from 1960. He does so by means of a series of case studies of aspects of life in the capital, covering subjects as diverse as pop culture, fashion, restaurants, architecture, suburbia, race, housing, the East End, even taxi-drivers, concluding that – perhaps surprisingly, London in these years provided the foundations for the later emergence of “Thatcher’s Britain”.
John is an Emeritus Fellow of The Queen’s College, Oxford.
Village Hall doors open 7.15pm, and the talk starts at 7.30 pm. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
